Greetings, fellow readers. I am Mario Liekens, the newest member to join the WE LIKE YOU-team and add some testosteron to their ‘Girl Squad’. In this blogpost you will get to know me a little, but if you want to know more, we should connect!
- What do you do apart from being a student?
When I am not working for school, I am running my own photo- & videography business. From nightlife aftermovies / photo coverage, to promotional videos for companies/events, to photoshoots. It is a passion that I want to follow and make my living of.
- Why photo- & videography?
I’ve always liked making videos when I was younger, later I taught myself how to edit and film. But I was missing something, and that was photography. The fact that I can make people smile in this hellish world, makes me proud to be a photographer. It’s also about moving the barriers of reality away.
- What made you choose WE LIKE YOU for your internship?
It’s all about knowing people and knowing what YOU want. I remember Eva giving a guest lesson at Thomas More which introduced me to the company, but the ‘trigger’ came when I was working next door, at The Growth Revolution. Yannick Khayati introduced me to Joyce Poelmans, eventually that introduction led to an interesting conversation which led to my internship here.
- What motivates you to work at WE LIKE YOU?
It’s all about the skills that a single human being possesses. I wanted to do something with my photo- & videography skillset. Joyce saw opportunity for that and I took that chance with both ‘artistic’ hands.
- What would you like to learn at WE LIKE YOU?
Making photos is one thing, but what happens later? I would like to see the story that happens after a picture. When it comes to video, I wanted to work on big projects where video matters, and WE LIKE YOU is just the place for that.
- How does your first day at WE LIKE YOU feel?
Excited, focussed and ready to move some mountains!
- Are there other skills that you posses?
My internship at The Growth Revolution gave me a lot of insights on Growth Marketing, I left with a new mindset that can surely be useful for WE LIKE YOU.
Alright, so you know the serious side of my life, but let us go through a small Q&A to check the other side.
- How much time do you spend on social media?
A lot, but not for checking how other people’s day was. I am looking for opportunities and for new people to connect with.
- How would you describe yourself?
Serious, but fun on the right moments.
- Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?
- Do you often celebrate things?
Not too much, I am at most parties as a photo/videographer, so it gets too much sometimes. But when I do party, it makes that moment extra special.
- Do you drink alcohol?
Abso – f*cking – lutely! If you see me with a Cuba Libre made out of some good Kraken, then you know I am having a good time!
- Which 3 things would you take with you to a deserted island?
My camera, a knife and one of my crazy friends!
- Do you drink coffee?
I live on coffee! I need my coffee! COFFEE!
- Alone or hang with the crew?
Most of the times you can find me working alone, but given the time, you’ll find me with my buddies.
- Favorite movie?: John Wick 1 & 2
- Favorite TV show?
Stranger Things, The 100, The Expanse, The Walking Dead.
- Favorite Music Genre?
I used to be a Dubstep fan, but Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is my new favorite.
- Favorite clothing brand?
I wear what I like! Don’t be a sheep ladies & gentlemen…
- Do you ever give up?
Never, at least try till you fail! It is better to fail, than to never have tried at all.
- Finally the most important question of all, how do people recognise you?
When people see that uplifted right eyebrow of me, they know damn well who they are looking at.
Thanks for taking your time to get to know me a little!
