#1 – Tentree conquers Instagram with Earth Day campaign

On Earth Day, Tentree launched a very special – and successful, we must say – campaign. For every 10 likes on their Instagram post, they plant 1 tree in Indonesia. Their goal was to plant 500.000 trees, which equals 5.000.000 likes. People started sharing the post in their Instagram stories like crazy. Thanks to this enthusiasm, they smashed their goal in under 24 hours! Did you do your bit?

#2 – Mark Zuckerberg launches his own podcast

Zuckerberg’s New Year’s resolution? Host a series of public discussions about the future of technology in society. Last month, Facebook’s big boss put his money where his mouth is and launched his own podcast called ‘Tech & Society with Mark Zuckerberg’. At the moment, there are already two episodes available and the third one should appear in May. Seems like Spotify is the place to be right now, guys!

#3 – Lush is leaving social media

A few weeks ago, Lush UK announced they would leave social media. The famous bath bomb brand was tired of fighting with algorithms and did not want to pay to appear in their fans’ newsfeed. Although they will no longer post on social media, Lush won’t disappear totally. Their new strategy? Letting their staff, friends and shop social media accounts keep the conversation going through hashtags like #Lushlabs and #Lushmakeup.

A bold move, to say the least!

#4 – Dove creates stock photo library with #ShowUs campaign

70% of women still don’t feel represented in media & advertising. A fact Dove wants to change for the better and the reason behind their #ShowUs campaign. Together with Girlgaze and Getty Images, Dove wants to create the largest photo library created by women and non-binary individuals to shatter beauty stereotypes. In this way, they hope to change the way media represent women.

Meanwhile, the library already contains more than 2000 pictures. All of them are created by Girlgaze, a diverse global community of photographers. Besides, every woman got to define her own description and tags to make sure she’s seen the way she wants. An initiative we can only support. You go, girls!

#5 – KFC turned Colonel Sanders into a virtual influencer

Influencers are old news. Human influencers, at least, because virtual influencers like Miquela and Shudu seem to be the new way to go. KFC hopped on that train by creating a virtual version of the chain’s founder, Colonel Sanders. At the same time, they mock the whole trend by showing off his abs and aspirational lifestyle, just like a true influencer is supposed to do.

A joke or a long-term project? Only time will tell. What we do know is that Colonel Sanders’ new influencer career is doing great, since he has already partnerships with brands like Dr. Pepper, TurboTax and Oldspice.
