There’s a new hype in town, and if you’re not from Gen Z, you’re not safe!
Ready for a laugh? Just turn on AirDrop on your iPhone because teens are using it as a new and funny way of communicating. What normally is a fast and easy way to share pictures between iPhones, now became an entertaining feature for teens. They use it to send memes and funny pictures to adults to provoke a reaction. Others also use it to share their Snapchat code or Instagram handle to get more followers or make random new friends.
i have a confession to make: when i see a bunch of teens on public transit i turn on airdrop from everyone so i can get some high-quality content to share with my friends.

The use of AirDrop as a new way of communicating shows a change in behavior. Of course, there’s also a downside to it. Because AirDrop isn’t a social media platform, there are no restrictions or rules. Some of these youngsters send inappropriate pictures or use it for cheating at school. It’s also easy to be anonymous or choose a random name. But overall, it’s a positive platform used as a chat room to pass funny content around.

A lot of these teens choose AirDrop above social media or texting because it’s quick and easy. You don’t need a phone number or username to share something. Teens are not the only ones who are using AirDrop in a creative way. Donald Glover, better known as Childish Gambino, gave away sneakers from his upcoming Adidas collab by AirDropping pictures of them at the Coachella festival in California this year.
Is AirDrop the new way of communicating? Who knows! For now, it’s just an easy way to share stuff for adults and a fun way of entertainment for teens.
